Sell The Sun Runner at your shop and keep all the cash!
As part of The Sun Runner, The Journal of the Real Desert's expansion, we're now UPC barcoding our issues and pricing them at a very reasonable $1.95. We're looking for gift shops, museums, visitor centers, chamber of commerce offices, bookstores, and other locations across the Southwest that would like us to ship them copies of The Sun Runner four times a year, and they sell them and keep the money.
Yep. That's right. We send the magazine to you for free, we promote the fact that folks can find the magazine at your business or organization for free, and you keep the money from all sales of the magazine. All you have to do is put it out so your customers can find it.
Why are we doing this? Over the past two decades, magazine distributors have consolidated down to just a few giant distributors. The distribution programs they have in place are designed for large national and regional corporate-owned commercial publications. While we've been publishing for more than 21 years, we've never been inclined to be like those magazines. Their programs would send a portion of any sold magazines back to us (in about six months), but the amount would be minimal, and their programs have high flat fees. We're looking to reach Southwest travelers and locals who love the region and enjoy reading about it. If you're kind enough to share our magazine with them, you deserve a reward. Keep in mind your business or organization doesn't have to be located in the Southwest if you deal with travelers and readers.
Instead, we offer great travel content from professional travel writers like Roger Naylor in Arizona, and Tom Garrison from southern Utah, Death Valley Jim from here in Joshua Tree, Donna McCrohan Rosenthal of Ridgecrest, historian Lorraine Blair from the living ghost town of Randsburg. We include guest features from authors like Diana Lindsay, Nicholas Clapp, Robin Maxwell, and many more.
We began our existence as a hi-desert magazine, then began covering all of the California deserts about 10 years ago. Several years ago, we extended our focus to all of the Southwest, including Baja and parts of Mexico, Nevada, and the California deserts, to match with our travel series for regional public broadcasting here in California, Southwest Stories with Steve Brown. The series has wrapped up its second season of being broadcast to 5.7 million households across southern California on KVCR PBS TV, and is now working on season three, with national distribution.
We've expanded our editorial content to include the Southwest, and now we need to extend our distribution. We're hoping you'll join us and become part of the Sun Runner community across this fantastic region we call home, with its great diversity of cultures, talented and inspired people, stunning natural beauty, great events, and no end to superb stories to share!
All we need from you is your contact information and the number of copies of The Sun Runner you'd like us to send you (some shops may just want half a dozen, others may want 50 - you know your clientele better than we do). We'll put you on our distribution list, and you can adjust the number of copies we send if you find you need more or less as we go.
To get started, all you have to do is send us your information in an e-mail: publisher@sunrunnersw.com.
