Amargosa Opera House launches new season

Marta Becket, legendary founder of the Amargosa Opera House, may be gone, but there's an exciting season of artistic performances being planned for the 2018-2019 season out in Death Valley Junction that keep her iconic artistic legacy thriving.

This October 26, A Night at the Opera, will bring the Sin City Opera from Las Vegas to the stage of the Amargosa Opera House. The opera singers and their piano accompanist will perform classic opera favorites beloved by many, including Marta and her audiences over the past 50 years.

Following the performance that evening, guests are invited for a champagne and cake reception in the lobby of the Amargosa Hotel to meet the performers and toast to the beginning of Marta's 51st season, while mingling with guests from around the world.

A Night at the Opera tickets are $30. Phone: (760)852-4441, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. daily, or leave a message with your phone number; all tickets must be pre-paid and may be picked up at the front desk of the hotel after noon on the day of the show. No refunds; all proceeds benefit Amargosa Opera House, Inc.

The following evening, on Saturday, October 27, with a nod to Halloween, the Amargosa Opera House will host the world premier of Cross Over, a movie filmed on location at Death Valley Junction. The film is about the ghost that resides in the Amargosa Hotel's Room #9.

There will be a panel discussion with Producer/Director James Horton and his cast and crew. For those in the audience not frightened sufficiently by the screening, James and his company will conduct a short tour of the grounds around Death Valley Junction to haunted locations where the movie was filmed. Treats will be offered in the lobby following the screening and tours.

Cross Over premier tickets are $30.

A limited-service dinner will be available at the Amargosa Cafe beginning at 5 p.m. each evening. Diners may enjoy seating at the cafe or inside the hotel dining room. Dinner details will be emailed to ticket holders.

The Amargosa Opera House asks its supporters to stay tuned for future announcements of some never-seen-before performances in the opera house featuring Tecopa's very own Gypsy Time Traveler, Proust-themed violin and piano concert, Celtic band, a classical harpist, Ballet, singer-songwriters, Mime, live 20's - 30's Jazz, Donna Lamm Dance Studio, Murder Mystery Productions (Daniel Stallings) from Ridgecrest, and other inspirational performing and visual arts, including the screening of the original 1925 Phantom of the Opera!

As a special holiday treat, on December 21 and 22, the opera house will present The Nutcracker performed by professional dancers from The Pink Tutu Ballet in Las Vegas.

Be advised to mark your calendar for Saturday, February 16 when the Amargosa Opera House will host Marta Becket's 51st Anniversary Celebration! You will be entertained by dancers from the Fossemalle Dance Studio in Santa Ynez accompanied by musicians Phyllis Nefsky and her trio, Wildflowers, from the Oasis (aka Furnace Creek) for a special tribute to Marta and her beloved partner for over 20 years, Tom Willet, aka "Wilget."
