It may not yet be February, but with deep watering from December rains, wildflowers are beginning to bloom in the warmer parts of the Mojave Desert. A hike last weekend revealed a variety of blooms with the promise of much more to come - including the fantastic desert lilies.
More rain is predicted for this coming week as January transitions into February, which should help sustain wildflower blooms. Blooms tend to roll chronologically from the higher temperature desert areas (lower elevations) to the higher altitude areas of the hi-desert, and up into the nearby San Bernardino Mountains. The rains have led some to predict a super bloom. I'll just enjoy what I can get.
