The Riverside County Board of Supervisors voted 5 to 0 to deny plans to build a new city on the southern border of Joshua Tree National Park. The vote followed the Planning Commission's recommendation to deny the Paradise Valley plan, and an extensive public comment period at today's Board of Supervisors meeting that was overwhelmingly in support of denial of the plan.

As a result of the actions of many people and organizations, Shavers Valley, site of the proposed new city, along with Joshua Tree National Park, remain protected for now.
