Initial Public Comment Period on DRECP Reopening is Over

The initial public comment period for the proposed reopening of the Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan ended today. Written comments postmarked by today will still be accepted.

The 45 day public comment period came after the BLM was directed to consider reopening the plan which took nearly a decade to complete. The plan, which covers the California desert region, designates lands for conservation, recreation, and renewable energy development. The purpose of reopening the plan would be to allow additional conservation and recreation lands to be used for energy development projects.

If the proposed reopening goes forward, a number of alternatives would likely be proposed, with further public comment allowed on each alternative.
