Epic rant delivered during SBC Planning Commission meeting on renewable energy development

Hi-desert resident Rebecca Unger makes her public comment during the San Bernardino County Planning Commission meeting on renewable energy language.

Yesterday's long delayed, day-long San Bernardino County Planning Commission meeting on Renewable Energy Conservation Element (RECE) Section 4.10 language, was filled with well-made heartfelt comments from dozens of rural desert residents. But during the afternoon's ongoing testimony, Apple Valley resident John Smith, was tired. He was so tired that he delivered this public comment, which struck a chord with many desert residents at the meeting. We thought you might enjoy it, and appreciate it, as much as we do.

I'm tired I'm really tired. I'm really tired of flim-flam, double speak and scam artists. I'm really tired of lying lips and winking eyes ... I'm really tired of hucksters ... peddling cow pies dipped in gold paint. I'm really tired of backroom deals, money packed envelopes  ... ... two face men and treacherous women ...  I'm really tired of all this genuflecting ... before the alter of  ... global warming ... ne: climate change ... ne: global cooling, etc., etc., etc ... erected by  ... "the sky is falling" ... Henny-Penny charlatans. I'm tired of that Kilauea volcano ... screwing up the 'save the earth' rally. I guess mother earth missed the memo ... doesn't need our help ... or is simply laughing at us And I suppose I should be tired of my own ... delusions of optimism  … since I have little confidence ... that on this day … moral courage ... will trump political expedience   … anymore than it did ... some 2,015 years ago … when a perfectly innocent and selfless man  ... was murdered ... for politically expedience So prove me wrong.  Surprise me! One wonders … euphemistically speaking ... of course … if there aren't just  ... some  ... 'more sophisticated' forms ... of 'silver incentive' ... being passed around? But then again, maybe I’m just too tired ...  I'm too tired of ... sham ... dog and pony shows ... and public input workshops … arranged under pretense of ... concern for legitimate county citizens ... only to have them ... subjugated to outside interests  ... having no honest stake in our future I'm tired of abdicated responsibility. … Turning critical long term and far reaching policy decisions ... over to unelected County employees … who by any reading of the regressive disassembly ... of the original RECE Alternative 4.10 ... leaves one to wonder just how Land Use Services determined ... to rewrite it ... rather than "review" it. And since there is no evidence provided as to the question ... "Review?  For what?" It appears LUS took it upon itself ... to completely rewrite it in such broad terms  ... as to build in numerous ... back-door work arounds ... and process loopholes ... that it makes me wonder ... just ... how closely ... they have been working ... with renewable energy representatives. I am beyond being disappointed in this process … because it seems  ... that the probabilities of  ... certain and consistent ... trustworthy representation ... of a legitimate resident electorate … is at best, doubtful And, I'm tired of the social and economic ... class bigotry and discrimination ... which is in play here. It is as ... legally and morally  ... indefensible and reprehensible   ... as is racial discrimination … and it is just as legally actionable While the interest of the parties ... present in this chamber ... have varied ... there are none ... for which you have … any higher obligation ... to represent ... and protect ... than your constituents ... the electorate  ... your fellow San Bernardino County residents

It is clearly evident today

… that the directly affected citizens

... are overwhelming opposed

... to Land Use Service's rewritten Section 4.10

We urge you to

... reinstate the originally RECE Section 4.10

... and advise the Board of Supervisors

... to approval it

... as originally presented.

The Planning Commission went on to vote unanimously to present the original RECE 4.10 language to the Board of Commissioners.
